XU Guanhua

XU Guanhua, male, was born in Shanghai at December of 1941. He is academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences, foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, academician of International Academy of Astronautics. He was the member of the 16th CPC Central Committee, former director of Minister of Science and Technology. XU Guanhua has been engaged in remote sensing and geographical information systems for a long time.

His main research area is resources remote sensing and geographical information system. During 1979 and 1981, he attended advanced studies on remote sensing science at University of Stockholm in Sweden. He served successively as assistant researcher, associate researcher, researcher and director in Chinese Academy of Forestry; Director of Institute of Remote Sensing Applications of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Vice Minister and Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Group of the State Science and Technology Commission; Director of the Evaluation Committee for State Science and Technology Awards; Director of the Academic Committee of the Sate Key Laboratory for Resources and Environment Information System; Director of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory for Remote Sensing and Aerial Survey; Chief Editor of Remote Sensing Journal. Mr. XU is also an academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Third World, a foreign academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences of Sweden, and an academician of the International Academy of Space Navigation Sciences.
