The New Stage of Sino-Thai Cooperation

Geo-informatics and Space technology Development Agency (GISTDA) is a organization affiliate to Thai Ministry of Sciences and Technology, they are doing research in space science and remote sensing technology area. The cooperation between GISTDA and IRSA started from 2007, when Princess Sirindhorn of Thailand visited IRSA with 7 Thai important scientists. Within the same year, GISTDA and IRSA signed a MOU for a period of three years. At 2009, Prof. Xingfa Gu, Prof Jinnian Wang and Prof. Lifu Zhang attended APSCO International Symposium on Space Cooperation for the Asia-Pacific Region in Thailand, few weeks later, 17 delegates from Thai Ministry of Sciences and Technology (MOST) and subordinate unites of MOST visited China. During their visits, they got the chance to discuss about renew the MOU. 

 

Recently, Thai GISTDA delegation visited Beijing from 1st December until 4th December. The objective of their visit is signing the new MOU, and further promoted cooperation between the two units. GISTDA delegation was led by Dr. Surachai Ratanasermpong, acting director of GISTDA, as a group of 7 people. GISTDA delegation also contains their project advisor, Department Director of Land Development, Director of Institute of Space Knowledge Development, GISTDA and so on.

 

During this visit, GISTDA was focus on comprehended application research in agriculture and environment area. Laboratory for agriculture and ecological remote sensing introduced new technologies for agricultural monitoring and environment monitoring. GISTDA delegation showed their intent of cooperated in geo-informatics technology in agricultural application. IRSA arranged other programs for GISTDA delegation during this visit, such as visiting Agricultural Experiment Station of Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences at Xiaotangshan, meeting with National Remote Sensing Center.

 

At welcome dinner for GISTDA delegation’s visit, Prof Gu said “the current visiting of GISTDA won’t be the peak time of our cooperation, it’s just the beginning. In the future, we will bring the Sino-Thai cooperation to deeper and broader areas”.
