The Eighth Academic Committee of IRSA held its second session of workshop on October 18, 2010. Some 20 participants including members from Academic Committee and Academic Consultative Committee, directors of some laboratories, and heads of functional departments attended the workshop, discussing the implementation of Innovation 2020 Project in IRSA, particularly in regard to the construction of four newly established laboratories. This workshop was chaired by Wang Jinnian, Deputy Director of IRSA and member of the Academic Committee.

Wang outlined Innovation 2020 Project in IRSA on the aspects of development direction, strategic goal, and research system adjustment. IRSA planned to reorganize its research and supporting systems, and as a part of the Project, IRSA established four laboratories focusing respectively on global change remote sensing, planetary remote sensing, ocean remote sensing, and atmospheric remote sensing. Niu Zheng, Di Kaichang, Li Ziwei, Chen Liangfu, as the directors of these laboratories presented their construction plans on the aspects of background, orientation, mission, focus, and research team.

The establishment of four laboratories as the innovation units of IRSA will certainly promote the implementation of the Project.
