Guests from Vrije Universiteit Brussel Visit IRSA

Prof. Jan Cornelis, member of the Commission on Technology Policy of the Flemish Council of Science Policy in Belgium, together with Prof. Hichen Sahli, member of Dept. of Electronics and Information Processing, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), paid a visit to IRSA on Sep. 17, 2010. Two guests received warm greetings from IRSA, represented by Prof. Zhao Zhongming and Prof. Wang Jinnian, both the Deputy Director of IRSA.

Prof. Wang, on behalf of IRSA, expressed his welcome for the second visit of Belgian guests and made a brief introduction on the development of IRSA during recent years. Visiting IRSA again after five years, Prof. Cornelis said that he felt the tremendous changes of IRSA while he entering this building. Prof. Cornelis also made a brief introduction on VUB, especially on the development of Dept. of Electronics and Information Processing. He talked about the achievement they had got on technology transfer. On the issue of market-oriented researches results, Prof. Cornelis said that they had currently brought several research results into the market, and they hoped to strengthen cooperation with Chinese companies, thereby popularized their research achievement in China. During the talks, Prof. Zhao expressed his appreciation of the VUB on their incentive measures for young scholars, and he held that IRSA should learn from their experiences.

After two-hour interview, both sides gained a common view on joint training of doctorate candidates and international cooperation projects. Both sides hoped to draft and sign cooperation memorandum based on the result of this interview as soon as possible.
