Prof. Chou Tien-Yin and Prof. Bruno Basso Visit IRSA

Prof. Chou Tien-Yin, Director of Geographic Information System (GIS) Research Center of Feng Chia University (FCU), and Bruno Basso, Professor of Forestry and Environmental Sciences of University of Basilicata, Italy, visited IRSA on September 15. Prof. Zhao Zhongming, Deputy Director of IRSA, chaired this academic meeting. Teachers and students from remote sensing image processing laboratory and environment remote sensing laboratory also attended the meeting.

It was the first academic exchanging between scholars from cross-Straits since Prof. Gu Xingfa, Director General of IRSA, visited FCU and signed an agreement on academic cooperation with the GIS Research Center in March, 2010.

Prof. Chou delivered a report titled “Integrated Applications of 3S Technology in Multi-platform Environment Management”, and the subject was about the the application of 3S technology in Taiwan and especially in natural disasters (such as typhoon, debris flow) and transportation management of Taiwan.

The topic of Prof. Bruno Basso was about “Adopting Intelligent Environment Management Systems for Enhancing Land Use Sustainability”, by which he introduced the principle and application of the model---“System Approach to Land Use Sustainability (SALUS)”.

During the presentation, both professors’ humorous speeches enlivened the atmosphere of the meeting. After that, they gave detailed answer to the questions from teachers and students.

Both sides hoped to carry on more communication and cooperation activities from depth and width in future.
