From 30th June 2010 to 2nd July 2010, Director General of IRSA, Prof. GU Xingfa, Deputy Director of IRSA, Prof. ZHAO Zhongming and their entourage attended “China-Thailand Geo-Informatics Series Workshop”, the topic of the first series workshop is agricultural applications. There are 31 participants, from Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), Khon Kaen University, Naresuan University and other related organizations, attended this workshop. During the three days workshop, there are 14 experts exchanged academic ideas, especially on land use, drought monitoring and crop monitoring.

The review of the history of cooperation between GISTDA and IRSA was carried out during the workshop. Meanwhile, according to Prof. GU’s proposal, both parties agreed on the following details, as the cooperation plan for next year. 1) Research fellows exchanging and Ph. D students fostering; 2) collaborate experiment; 3) promote the Chinese crop watch system in Thailand; 4) propose “Ecosystem and environmental monitoring/modeling in Great Mekong Sub-region”.

The workshop contains two parts, which are academic meeting and study tour. After the meeting, all participants visited THEOS Ground Control Station and Khao Hin Sorn Royal Development Study Center.

The China-Thailand Geo-Informatics Series Workshop was launched by GISTDA and IRSA, this workshop is the first series workshop. The second workshop will be held at October 2011, Beijing, the topic is operational remote sensing applications.
